Different Moral Compasses

The part of this article that I found most interesting and want to focus on is the ideal of cultural relativism and moral diversity.  He focuses most of the article on why we should study ethics and brings up the question of how we should live our lives.  I think that one reason to study ethics is because of moral diversity.  Moral diversity is one of the things that make the world we live in so interesting.  There is never going to be one right answer for anything, and we will never have a set of morals that everyone will follow.  I personally think that we all need to be able to adjust.  I think that we need to study ethics because if we live in a society where we have the luxuries that others do not, we should help the less fortunate, but at the same time we should reap the rewards of our hard work.  I think that in each culture the answer to the “guitar lessons” and what is the morally right thing to do would be different.  I believe that we should all be able to adapt to the culture that we are in.  In addition, he brings in religion, however this is something that I feel there is no right or wrong answer to as well because of the different views that people have on religion.  I do not think it is fair to say that we only have morals because of God, because there are atheists in the world, but that does not mean that they have no morals.  I think that we should study ethics to help ourselves decide the morals that we want to live by and help make our own decisions, while realizing that we may not all agree.
