According to Mill Utilitarianism is defined as the belief in
which an action or actions can cause a person to be happy. More times than not
the action is based from a consequence or outcome of particular outcome. If a
certain action can bring the utmost amount of happiness or pleasure to the
greatest number of people, then it is according to Mill the right thing to do.
In my own opinion out of the three theories I think that the objective list
theory can best relate to present day society. This theory mainly deals with
knowledge and friendship. Objective list theory however can be more combatable
with a bigger group of people instead of individuals. I think that it is fair to say that a
majority of the things on this list are things that people wish to have in
their everyday lives. Through knowledge and relationships I think that
happiness is gained. By gaining more
knowledge and gaining more friendships/relationships this opens up to the
bigger picture of trying to work with a larger group of people.
