I think the best
theory in regards to intrinsic value here is the OLS, Objective List
Theory. I personally think that while
the Mental State Theory promotes a nice idea that all happiness can come from
within, but I don’t think it is very realistic to believe that considering that
a lot of things in one’s life can affect them internally in an unhappy
manner. I also don’t think that the
generality of the desire-satisfaction theory is very realistic either. It makes for the possibility of some pretty
broad desires. Some of which could be
considered unethical and/or immoral.
I
think the Objective List Theory is the best theory because it hits specific
things that I would personally consider necessary for happiness. You also don’t
necessarily need to be “okay” in all those different aspects to be happy. It
does divide happiness into individual categories which I think is more
realistic than having general happiness externally or having all happiness come
from within.
