torture

I have to agree with the point that torture should not be legalized due to the fact that there is no guarantee that you are getting the correct information from the person.  I don’t believe that torture should be allowed because I feel that it is similar to the situation of whether it is moral to kill one to save five.  This would be intentional killing of someone who may or may not have the answers that the intelligence and defense agencies are looking for.  As we have seen, intentional killing is not considered moral, where unintended would be moral.  I do not think that morally we can say that if we need information on something that may or may not happen, we can torture someone to the point that they are willing to talk.  I think that people who don’t talk are usually willing to die for what they believe in, and if we torture them to the point of death, and still have no answers, we are killing someone and not saving the lives of others.  I think that torture is a big debate today because of the terrorist attacks that we have seen, and the fear that there may be more in the future.  I think that we need to work more on having a good defense set up rather than focusing on trying to find information out on possible attacks.  I think that if we spend a lot of time trying to find this information out, we will drive ourselves crazy chasing many empty threats and misleading information.
