Blog 8

Torture is a touchy subject, and has been for a long time.  Regarding the readings on torture, I think the argument that if it is used for saving lives, then it is okay, is a dangerous one to make. Torture shouldn’t be something that is justified so easily.  Justifying torture easily is the same as saying that the “ends justify the means”, but if those means are immoral, unethical or downright cruel, is it still right?

Another problem is that it seems like people that argue for or against torture are extremely disconnected from the act of torturing someone or being tortured. It’s much easier to believe something about a topic if you have no real connection to it.  This can make it easier to say the methods of doing something to create something positive are worth it, which I don’t necessarily agree with.
