I don’t
necessarily agree with Li’s opinion on Filial Duty. I do agree that one should
provide some sort of care for their parents if it is feasible personally,
especially if said parents have provided their child, now adult with a happy
life and have done everything they could to provide their child with.
One scenario I can think of in the case of is
if the parents are extremely abusive and unloving parents that don’t provide
the child with any sort of adequate care or if they are too absorbed in their
own personal affairs to help their child.
Does that person then owe their parents anything? I would say no, if
they did not provide their child with care, then they should that child provide
their parents who treated them so poorly receive care?
