Abortion

After reading the piece about abortion by Don Marquis I felt that his ideas were to strong and valid arguments can be presented to refute the claims that he is making. He is saying that by having the embryo aborted that mother is depriving the child what could have been a successful life. He makes the comparison that is it wrong to kill a normal adult so shouldn’t the same standard be help for an unborn child? First addressing the claim that the mother is denying the child that could possibly have a valuable future is way too farfetched of an argument. Many times the mother has good reasons for making the decision to terminate the pregnancy, and a lot of the time they have to do with the quality of life the child will be born into. For a child to have a successful like there needs to be some stability. Next moving onto the idea that terminating a pregnancy is like killing a full grown human is completely false. Medically they are the same but there are so many other aspects, and adult has relationships with others and had formed friendships and bonds. Whereas a fetus though still having value does not have the same value as the full grown man. Also if Marquis Argument is correct then the use of contraception would have to be the equivalent of murder. Meaning that by using contraception it would be the same as committing murder against another human being. His views come of too strong and when apply to situations can be seen as a little extreme.
