Hiroshima

The take on Hiroshima that it was an experiment on the United States part was very disconcerting to me.  Because two types of bombs were dropped (plutonium and uranium) and two separate cities were targeted, it is very likely the United States were trying to figure out which type of bomb would produce their desired effect (whatever that may have been).  Some believe it is because they wanted to end the war once and for all and testing these types of weapons was a bonus to ending the was.  Many Japanese find these seemingly experimental bombings inhumane and cruel.  Regardless of what information the US obtained from dropping the atomic bomb(s), it was not worth advancing the world's level of warfare or the high number of deaths and long term injuries caused.  Not only did the bomb kill an obscene number of people, it introduced a prolonged sickness into that part of the world.  This affected an entire city, an economy, and an ecosystem.  I am not sure the US knew the repercussions in the years to come after the dropping of the atomic bomb because they were so worried about obtaining an instantaneous & indisputable end to the war.  By only looking at the short term, I feel the United States caused a catastrophic event that they could never take back and never fix based essentially on a sneaky way to get what they wanted.
