In the article discussing a
Buddhist perspective on genetic enhancement, there are both positive and
negative factors that can come into play when talking about this matter. Many
Buddhists would see genetic enhancement as a bad thing in that it is interfering
with nature, and changing the way of how it is naturally done and should be
done. While this is true, there is also a strong acceptance in Buddhism that
what is more important are the intended actions that are being done. For
instance if what is being done can be seen as truthful and morally right then
they would view this action as being adequate. In my own opinion on genetic
enhancement I believe that it would depend on the situation to determine if
could be beneficial or harmful. I think that as long as the person is willing
to take the risks and possible malfunctions, then it could turn out to be a
good thing. It can and most certainly has the potential to create cures for
diseases that are deadly to humans which will also have a way to increase
intelligence in our society today. I believe that in the future it will be a
very common thing to see and that eventually it will be a normal thing for
people. I do not think that it is looked at today as a normal thing in many
peoples eyes.
